About Us

At The Taj Rugs, we make beautiful handmade rugs and carpets from our workshop in Udaipur, Rajasthan. What makes us special? We can create any size, any design, and any color just the way you want Whether it’s a bold modern look or a traditional pattern, we bring your ideas to life. We make both hand-tufted and hand-knotted rugs, using quality materials and skilled craftsmanship. Every rug we make is custom, handmade, and crafted with care ready to travel from our hands to your home.

Our Process

1. Dyeing the Wool

The wool is dyed in custom shades to match your selected color palette. we use Asian Paints shade card for choosing the right shade which fits the clients vibe.

2. Frame Setup & Cloth Stretching

A sturdy frame is set up, and tufting cloth is stretched tightly over it. This creates a stable base for tufting and design mapping..

3. Design Mapping

Your selected design is drawn or printed on the cloth. This becomes the tufter’s guide to ensure every detail is placed perfectly.

4. Tufting The Wooll

Using a tufting gun, wool is carefully punched into the cloth following the design. This step builds the texture, shape, and pattern of the rug..

5. Securing with Latex

Once tufting is complete, a layer of latex is applied to the back of the rug to lock the wool in place and prevent shedding.

6. Adding Backing Cloth

We attach a strong backing cloth to cover the latex, giving the rug structure, durability, and a neat finish on the underside.

7. Edge Finishing and Trimming

The edges are sealed with taping glue and finished with cotton nivar tape. The rug’s surface is then trimmed and sheared to enhance the design and create a uniform pile height.

8. Final Touches

Every rug is hand-finished with care checked for precision, shaped perfectly, and made ready for use in your home
